Make Your Place . . . Fire Safe!

     Are you and your loved ones safe from fire? Would everyone  know what to do of a fire occurred in your home? Fire safety is a  family affair . . . make sure you and your loved ones are safe.

Do you have a fire escape plan?
Is the plan practiced regularly?
Does your family have a meeting place?
Does everyone know two ways out of all areas?

Does you family know how to: "Stop, Drop and Roll"?

Do they know to crawl under smoke?
Do you check regularly for fire hazards?
Do you have one smoke alarm on every floor?
Do you test your smoke alarms regularly?
Do you have a fire extinguisher available?
Do you know how to use it properly?
Is your stove kept clean and free of grease?
Do you keep combustibles away from the stove?
Do you turn pot handles inward when cooking?
Do you inspect electrical cords for damage, etc?
Are extension cords being used only temporarily?
Are you sure that extension cords & plugs are not overloaded?
Do you make sure that all appliances are turned off when you leave the house or go to bed?
Is everyone aware of the dangers of smoking in bed?
Do you provide large, safe ashtrays?
Are ashes emptied into a noncombustible container?
Are matches and lighters kept away from children?
Do you have your furnace pipes & chimney cleaned and inspected by a professional before each heating season?
Do you keep space heaters away from flammables?
Is your fireplace equipped with a close fitting fire screen?
Are ashes kept in metal containers?
Are all flammable substances kept in approved containers?
Are they stored and used in well ventilated areas away from heat sources and children?
Do you store all gas powered appliances outside of the house?
Are all pressurized aerosol cans stored in a cool place?
Do you keep your garage, basement, storeroom, and yard clear of rubbish and other combustible waste?
Is the lint trap on your dryer cleaned regularly?

If you have answered "No" on more than 5 of these questions then you may not have a 'Fire Safe' home.
